Harnessing the Power of Variables

At SigmaMD, we recognize the importance of swift and accurate documentation. One of the innovative features we've introduced to aid this is the use of variables within the Clinical Notes.

What are Variables?

Variables are predefined shortcuts that allow you to swiftly pull specific data from the patient's chart, integrating this data seamlessly into your notes without manual entry.

How to Use Variables

To leverage this feature, simply type the $ shortcut. This action will prompt you with options to insert predefined data points. The list is being constantly improved and the available options are:

Patient demographics

  • $patientFirstName and $patientLastName to retrieve the patient's first and last name respectively.
  • For the entire name, utilize $patientFullName.
  • $patientAge to fetch the patient's age.
  • $patientDOB for the patient's date of birth.
  • $patientPreferredName for the patient's preferred name.
  • $patientAddress for the patient's full preferred address.
  • $patientSex for the patient's sex at birth.
  • $patientContact patient's phone number and email, separated by a comma.
  • $patientDemographics groups all the patient information listed above on a single paragraph, excluding age and sex.

Patient health data

  • $allProblems lists all the problems on the patient health data, organized between active and other statuses.
  • $allAllergies lists all the allergies on the patient records, organized between active and other statuses.
  • $allMedications lists all the allergies on the patient records, organized between active, intended, and past medications.
  • $allImmunizations lists all immunization records on the patient chart.
  • $allProcedures lists all procedures from the patient records, chronologically organized.
  • $activeProblems lists only the problems with status active, relapse, and recurrence from the patient chart.
  • $activeAllergies lists only the active allergies from the patient chart.
  • $currentMedications lists only the active medications from the patient chart.
  • $socialHistory lists the patient's status for tobacco use, sexual activity, alcohol consumption, and recreational drug use.

Using Variables in Notes and Templates

The true power of variables is realized when you see the flexibility they offer. Not only can they be used directly within the notes, but they can also be incorporated into templates. This dual functionality ensures that your documentation process is as streamlined and personalized as possible.

Expanding Our Variable Library

While we currently offer a foundational list of variables, our team is in the process of expanding this selection. Our goal is to furnish an even more comprehensive list of variables to further ease your documentation.
