Dosing Calculator: Required Fields for Dose and Liquid Dose Calculations
The DoseSpot Dosing Calculator allows clinicians to calculate both the total daily dose and the corresponding liquid dose for weight-based medications. This guide explains which fields are required for each part of the calculation.
Required Fields to Calculate Dose (mcg, mg, gm)
To calculate the total daily dose based on patient weight:
- DOSAGE: Enter the prescribed dosing amount (e.g., mcg/kg/day, mg/kg/day, etc.).
- WEIGHT: Enter the patient’s weight (can be in pounds or kilograms).
- FREQUENCY: Enter how many times per day the medication will be administered (e.g., 1 per day, 2 per day, etc.).
Once these fields are completed, the calculator will display the computed DOSE value.
Additional Fields to Calculate Liquid Dose (mL)
To calculate the corresponding LIQUID DOSE (mL) that should be administered:
- MED AMOUNT: Enter the amount of medication contained in a specific volume (e.g., 1 mg, 125 mcg, etc.). This should match the concentration printed on the medication label.
- PER VOLUME: Enter the volume that contains the MED AMOUNT (e.g., per 5 mL, per 1 mL, etc.).
Once these two fields are filled along with the Dose calculation above, the system will compute the LIQUID DOSE in mL.
