Using Text Snippets Across SigmaMD

Text snippets make it easy to quickly insert pre-written messages or responses wherever you’re typing. They’re triggered by typing the /  shortcut followed by the snippet name or keyword.

This is a great way to standardize communication and save time in daily tasks.

How to Use Snippets

To use a snippet:

  1. In any supported text field (see below), type / .
  2. Begin typing the name or shortcut of the snippet.
  3. Select the desired snippet from the suggestion list. You can click on it with your cursor or navigate through the list using your keyboard arrow keys and hitting Enter to select the snippet.
  4. The full text will be inserted automatically.

Where You Can Use Snippets

Snippets are currently supported in the following places:

  • Chat messages
  • Internal notes on chats
  • Lab notes on imaging and lab orders
  • Task descriptions
  • Internal notes and notes to patient on calendar events
  • Care plans for problems
  • Patient directions for medications
  • Management measures for allergies
  • Memos for vital measurements
  • Follow-up plans for procedures

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Text field limitations vary: Some fields have maximum character counts. If your snippet exceeds the limit, it may be truncated.
  • Formatting support differs: Certain text fields may not allow rich text or line breaks. In these cases, snippets may lose formatting like bold, italic, or paragraph spacing. For example, the “Lab note” field supports only plain text and limited length—be cautious when using formatted snippets there.

Using snippets the right way can improve efficiency and consistency, but always double-check how the final output looks, especially in fields with stricter formatting rules.
