File Transfer Through Chat

In SigmaMD, one of the main ways of sharing files between clinicians and patients is through the chat. Here, we will learn how to send files, how to view sent or received files and where we can find all the exchanged files through chat.

How to Send Files

To send a file, we must first either enter an already existing chat with a patient or create a new one.
In the chat screen, be it from within the Patient chart or the Inbox area, we will find the Attach File button.

Selecting the Attach file button will show us two options. Desktop and Patient files.
'Desktop' is when you want to upload an attachment from your computer files.
'Patient files' is for you to search files saved inside the Patient drive in Sigma.

1. Desktop

If you select the Desktop option, the upload files screen will open.

Selecting the Upload files button will open a screen for you to search and select the files you want.

Once you have selected your file, it will be shown in the Upload Files screen, and the Save button will be enabled. Now, you can either add more files or select Save to upload them.

The file you uploaded will be shown just below the text area of the chat. To send it, select the send chat button, just as you would with a normal text chat.


2. Patient files

If you choose the Patient files option, the Patient Drive screen will open.

You will be able to navigate the patient drive as you wish to find files. When you find a file you want to send via chat, select the checkbox to mark it. This will enable the Add to chat button.
Also, even after selecting a file, you will still be able to navigate the patient drive to select more files.

The file you uploaded will be shown just below the text area of the chat. To send it, you must only select the send chat button, as with a normal text chat.

How to View Files in Chat

Files sent by both the patient and the practice and be seen via the chat screen itself. You must first open the chat with the file you want to see.

Now, you must hover over the file. This will show us up to three buttons.

The first is the Download option. This will appear for all files.

The second is the Open in a new tab button. This opens a new tab to view the file on a full screen.
This option will only appear if the system has the capability of opening the intended file.

The third and final option is Open file. This will open a smaller dedicated screen on Sigma for you to review the file.
This option also will only appear if the system has the capability of opening the intended file.

Patient Drive


All files exchanged through chat with a patient are saved on the Patient Drive.
So, if you are having trouble locating a specific chat to find a file, or you are using the upload through drive option on another area of the Sigma platform, you will find the files exchanged through chat in the Patient Drive.
To find these files in the patient drive, we first enter the Patient Drive on the patient chart.

Here, you will find the Chat Attachments folder. By hovering over it, the Open folder button will appear.
