Enrolling Pediatric Patients in Memberships via the EMR
In SigmaMD, patients under the age of 16 must be linked to a caregiver before they can be enrolled in a membership. The selected membership plan must also include a seat that covers the patient’s age. Once both requirements are met, enrollment can be completed from the patient’s Payments section.
Step 1: Add the Caregiver
- Go to the patient list and click Add Patient
- Enter the caregiver's details
- Click Save
Step 2: Add the Care-recipient
- Click Add Patient and enter the care-recipient's details
- Enable This patient has a caregiver
- Select an existing patient as the caregiver
- Click Save
Pediatric patients cannot be created without assigning a caregiver.
Step 3: Confirm the Membership Plan Covers the Patient’s Age
- Navigate to Billing > Memberships
- Create a new plan or edit an existing one
- In Plan Seats, confirm there is a seat that includes the patient’s age (for example, 0–16)

- Complete required fields such as Charging Cycles and Required Seat Rules

- Save the plan
Step 4: Enroll the Pediatric Patient
- Open the pediatric patient’s chart
- Go to Payments
- Click Add Membership Plan

- Select the appropriate plan

- Update the Payer if needed (for example, to the caregiver)
- Review and confirm
Once saved, the pediatric patient will be enrolled in the membership.
Adding a Pediatric Patient to an Existing Family Membership
If a parent or caregiver is already enrolled:
- Open the enrolled parent’s or sibling's chart
- Navigate to the existing membership
- Add the pediatric patient to an available plan seat instead of creating a new membership
