Understanding Guarantors
Guarantors play an essential role in ensuring accurate billing and financial responsibility. This guide explains how guarantors work in SigmaMD and the rules that determine who can be designated as a guarantor.
For more details on adding or editing caregivers, review this How to Add a Guarantor article.
What is a Guarantor?
A guarantor is the individual responsible for a patient’s financial obligations.
Minors and Caregivers
For minor patients, it is necessary to add a caregiver. If the caregiver already has a registered address, they will automatically be set as the guarantor.
Adults
Patients of legal age with a registered address can be designated as their own guarantor.
Multiple Guarantors
You can add as many guarantors as needed. This provides flexibility when multiple caregivers or responsible parties are involved.
Notes
- Guarantors don't need to be registered or associated as a patient or caregiver.
- Only one guarantor can be marked as preferred.
