eRx rules and warnings

  1. Restriction on prescribing controlled substances

Federal guidelines do not allow a single prescription for schedule two or more controlled substances to be written for more than a 30-day supply, so you might experience restrictions on longer stimulant prescriptions,

That said, providers can issue three separate 30-day prescriptions at the same time, with them written with future “earliest fill” dates. This allows you to cover longer periods while staying compliant with regulations.

  2. Error: “EPCS TX OPTION NOT CONFIGURED FOR PRESCRIBER”

This error usually occurs shortly after EPCS permissions are newly added or updated for a prescriber.

According to Surescripts, it can take 24–48 hours for pharmacies to recognize updated EPCS permissions. If a controlled substance prescription is sent before this update has fully propagated, the pharmacy may reject it with this error.

    What to Do

    1. Wait 24–48 hours after EPCS permissions are updated before sending controlled substance prescriptions.
    2. If the error continues after 72 hours, contact our support team for assistance.
