Avoiding Patient Confusion From Multiple Telehealth Invites
If a patient receives multiple telehealth invites in a short period, they may accidentally click an older or expired link. This can happen when emails arrive out of order or are delayed, and it may prevent the patient from joining the visit.
Why This Happens
- The clinician sends more than one invite in quick succession
- Email delivery delays cause older (now invalid) links to appear first in the patient’s inbox
- Previously sent links expire once a new invite is generated
Best Practices
To prevent confusion:
- Avoid sending multiple telehealth invites back-to-back unless necessary
- Ask patients to wait for the most recent email and use the newest telehealth link, as delivery can sometimes take a few moments
Tip
If a patient can’t join the visit, first confirm they are clicking the latest telehealth invite before sending another one.
