90-Day Prescriptions for Schedule II Medications

If you see a hard stop when prescribing a 90-day supply for a Schedule II medication (e.g., Adderall), this is expected and compliant with federal regulations.

Why This Happens

A single Schedule II prescription cannot exceed a 30-day supply. This is a regulatory requirement.

How to Cover 90 Days

Issue three separate 30-day prescriptions:

  1. Fill immediately
  2. Add an earliest fill date (≈ +30 days)
  3. Add an earliest fill date (≈ +60 days)

This sequential prescribing approach is standard practice.
