Managing Healthcare Credentials

Your healthcare credentials are used across key clinical workflows in SigmaMD, including ePrescribing, lab and imaging orders, and clinician verification. The Healthcare Credentials page is where you add and manage your National Provider Identifier (NPI) and state licenses.

Before you begin

If you are an Ordering Clinician, you must complete your healthcare credentials before you can:

  • Send prescriptions
  • Order labs
  • Order imaging

Non-prescribing users can leave these fields blank.

Step 1: Open Healthcare Credentials

  1. From the left navigation menu, click Personal Settings
  2. Under the Profile section, select Healthcare Credentials

Step 2: Add your NPI

The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a unique 10-digit number assigned to healthcare providers.

  1. Enter your 10-digit NPI in the National Provider Identifier field
  2. Continue to the next section to add your state license information

If you do not have an NPI yet, you can request one through the official NPPES website.

Step 3: Add a state license

In the Credentials section, add one license for each state where you are authorized to practice.

  1. Select the State
  2. Enter your License Number
  3. If applicable, enter your DEA Number
  4. Click Add

The DEA number must follow the standard format:

  • 2 letters followed by 7 numbers
  • Example: AB1234567

Note: License Number is required for Ordering Clinicians.

Step 4: Review your licenses

After adding a license, it will appear below the form as a badge showing:

  • State
  • License number
  • DEA number (when provided)

You can:

  • Add multiple licenses for different states
  • Remove a license by clicking the × icon on the badge

You cannot add more than one license for the same state. If a duplicate is entered, the system will display an error message.

Step 5: Save your changes

Once all information is complete:

  1. Click Save at the bottom of the page
  2. Wait for the confirmation message indicating your credentials were updated successfully

The Save button remains disabled until:

  • A change has been made
  • All required fields are valid
