Checking the PDMP and Narx Scores

SigmaMD supports state Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) access through its DoseSpot ePrescribing integration, in partnership with Appriss. This lets you review a patient's controlled-substance dispensing history before prescribing.

Your clinic must be enabled first

PDMP is not switched on by default. Enabling it takes three steps:

1. Contact SigmaMD support to open a DoseSpot Support case requesting PDMP for your clinic. You will need to supply your clinic ID and one point of contact — first name, last name, and email — for each legal business entity.
2. That contact receives an email from Appriss with registration instructions, and completes the registration.
3. Once registration is complete, Appriss returns credentials to DoseSpot and DoseSpot enables your clinic configuration. The role type must then be set for each user who will access PDMP data.

Until all three steps are finished, PDMP data will not appear for your clinicians.

How it works once enabled

• PDMP history is requested automatically when you open a patient in DoseSpot. There is no button to press.
• Narx Scores appear beneath the patient's demographic information when the request succeeds. These scores indicate potential substance-use risk.
• View Report appears when a full report is available, and opens the consolidated state PDMP report.

Requests are routed through PDMP Gateway to InterConnect, which queries the state PDMP systems and returns a consolidated patient report. Your system permissions and clinical role are checked on every request, so access depends on what your state's PDMP allows for your role.

PDMP is not the same as medication history

These are two different data sources and are easy to confuse. A patient may appear in one and not the other.

• PDMP — controlled-substance dispensing reported to your state's monitoring program.
• Medication history — prescription data reported by Pharmacy Benefit Managers, generally available only when insurance was used for the prescription. See Retrieve Patient Medication History in DoseSpot.

Before you can prescribe controlled substances

PDMP access is separate from EPCS (Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances). To prescribe controlled substances, confirm your credentials are complete under Personal Settings > Profile > Healthcare Credentials: your NPI, your state license(s), and your DEA number in the standard format.
