Screen Sharing in Televisits

During a televisit you can share your desktop with the patient, so you can walk through a lab result, a care plan, or an educational resource together instead of describing it.

Screen sharing is started from the call controls and stays under your control for the whole call.

Starting and stopping a share

While you are in an active televisit:

  • Click Share screen in the call controls
  • Choose the screen, window, or browser tab in your browser's prompt
  • Click Stop sharing when you are finished

If you change your mind at the browser prompt and close it, nothing happens and the call continues as normal.

What you see while sharing

Your own video tile changes so the share is never running unnoticed:

  • A Sharing your screen marker appears over your tile
  • A Stop sharing button sits next to it
  • The shared content stays visible to you, so you can confirm what the patient is seeing

Sharing your entire desktop will show the televisit window inside itself, which is expected — choosing a single window or tab avoids it.

Important considerations

A few conditions affect whether the option is available:

  • The Share screen control only appears on browsers that support screen capture
  • Phones and tablets do not offer it, so the control is hidden there
  • Your account needs screen sharing permission for the control to appear
  • Only what you select is shared — notifications from other windows are not included unless that window is the one you chose

If a share cannot start, a Could not share your screen message appears and the call is unaffected, so you can try again.
