Changing Backgrounds in Televisits
SigmaMD can blur your background during a televisit, so the patient sees you and not the room behind you. If you want to replace the background with an image rather than blur it, your operating system can do that instead.
Blurring your background in SigmaMD
The blur is part of the call itself, so it works the same on macOS and Windows:
- Open the camera settings in the call controls
- Turn on Blur background
- The blur applies straight away, and stays on for your next call
You will briefly see Preparing background blur... the first time it starts in a call.

When the option is not there
The Blur background row only appears on browsers that can run the filter. If it is missing:
- Your browser or device does not support it, and the rest of the camera settings still work normally
- Updating to a current version of Chrome, Edge, or Safari usually brings it back
If the blur stops during a call you will see Background blur turned off, which means your background is visible again and can be turned back on from the same place.
Replacing your background with your operating system
A blur hides the room; a replacement puts something else behind you. That is handled outside SigmaMD.
On an Apple computer running macOS Sequoia 15 or later:
- During a call, click the green video button in the menu bar
- Select Background to enable it — the icon turns green
- Click the background preview to choose a color, a system image, or one of your own

If the option does not appear, check your macOS version using this guide from Apple.
On Windows, there is no system-wide background replacement, but many cameras offer their own blur through Studio Effects:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras
- Select your camera and look for Studio Effects
- Enable Background Blur if it is available
Because this depends on the camera, the SigmaMD blur is the more reliable option on Windows.
