Appointment Type Colors on the Calendar

Every appointment type carries a color, and the calendar uses those colors to make the day readable at a glance. You choose the color when you create or edit the appointment type, and each clinician chooses how their own calendar applies it.

Choosing a color for an appointment type

When you add or edit an appointment type, the color sits next to its name:

  • Pick one of the ready-made swatches
  • Or select Custom color to open the color picker
  • In the picker, choose from the wheel or type a HEX code
  • Save the appointment type to keep the color

Note: Because you can pick any color, SigmaMD protects legibility: event text and icons switch automatically between black and white, whichever reads better on your color.

How the calendar applies colors

Each clinician sets this from the calendar toolbar, under Set colors by:

  • Appointment type: Every event takes the color of its type
  • Practice calendar: Every event takes the color of the calendar it belongs to

Switching recolors the whole view at once, and the choice is remembered for your next visit. It affects only your own calendar, not your colleagues'.

Blocks and external events

Some events have no appointment type to take a color from:

  • Blocks, such as out-of-office time, use a distinct red-toned style
  • Events from a connected external calendar use a neutral beige

Keeping these outside your color scheme makes it obvious at a glance which parts of the day are not bookable appointments.
