Sharing and Using Community Templates

Community templates let you start a clinical note, recap, or snippet template from one that SigmaMD or another clinic has shared, and share your own.

What are community templates?

In Practice Settings > Templates, click the arrow next to Template and select Library to open the Template Library. It lists:

  • SigmaMD templates, written by SigmaMD
  • Community templates, shared by other clinics using SigmaMD

Search by name or shortcut, or click the filter icon to filter by Source or Type. The preview shows the content and Created by, the clinic that shared it.

What happens when you use a template?

When you click Use template:

  • A new template form opens with the content filled in
  • Scribe settings come along when your practice uses Scribe
  • "(Copy)" and "-copy" are added when the name or shortcut is taken
  • The template joins your list once you click Save

Your saved copy is independent: editing it never changes the original, and later changes to the original don't reach it.

What happens when you share a template?

Anyone on your team can share: turn on Share with other clinics in its Details, then save and confirm. Once it's shared:

  • Other clinics can view and copy it
  • Your templates list shows Shared in the Community column

When you edit a shared template, Update Shared Copy lets you publish the changes or keep them in your clinic. Until you update it, the Community column shows Outdated, which also happens when a template it embeds changes.

Important Considerations

Before sharing a template, make sure:

  • It contains no patient names or other identifying details
  • Templates it embeds are safe to share, since their content is included

To stop sharing, turn off Share with other clinics or delete the template; deactivating it asks whether to Remove from catalog. Copies other clinics already saved stay with them.

Library templates may not meet all clinical or legal needs, so review and edit a template before using it in patient notes.
