{"id":"6a9c6aed7e56f2abb02ad7e4","number":576,"collectionId":"685a371af9407c399a3ebfb2","slug":"checking-the-pdmp-and-narx-scores","status":"published","hasDraft":false,"name":"Checking the PDMP and Narx Scores","text":"<p>SigmaMD supports state <strong>Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP)</strong> access through its DoseSpot ePrescribing integration, in partnership with Appriss. This lets you review a patient's controlled-substance dispensing history before prescribing.</p>\n<h2>Your clinic must be enabled first</h2>\n<p>PDMP is not switched on by default. Enabling it takes three steps:</p>\n<ol>\n <li>Contact SigmaMD support to open a <strong>DoseSpot Support case</strong> requesting PDMP for your clinic. You will need to supply your clinic ID and one point of contact — first name, last name, and email — for each legal business entity.</li>\n <li>That contact receives an email from <strong>Appriss</strong> with registration instructions, and completes the registration.</li>\n <li>Once registration is complete, Appriss returns credentials to DoseSpot and DoseSpot enables your clinic configuration. The <strong>role type must then be set for each user</strong> who will access PDMP data.</li>\n</ol>\n<p>Until all three steps are finished, PDMP data will not appear for your clinicians.</p>\n<h2>How it works once enabled</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><strong>PDMP history</strong> is requested <strong>automatically</strong> when you open a patient in DoseSpot. There is no button to press.</li>\n <li><strong>Narx Scores</strong> appear beneath the patient's demographic information when the request succeeds. These scores indicate potential substance-use risk.</li>\n <li><strong>View Report</strong> appears when a full report is available, and opens the consolidated state PDMP report.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Requests are routed through PDMP Gateway to InterConnect, which queries the state PDMP systems and returns a consolidated patient report. Your system permissions and clinical role are checked on every request, so access depends on what your state's PDMP allows for your role.</p>\n<h2>PDMP is not the same as medication history</h2>\n<p>These are two different data sources and are easy to confuse. A patient may appear in one and not the other.</p>\n<ul>\n <li><strong>PDMP</strong> — controlled-substance dispensing reported to your state's monitoring program.</li>\n <li><strong>Medication history</strong> — prescription data reported by Pharmacy Benefit Managers, generally available only when insurance was used for the prescription. See <em>Retrieve Patient Medication History in DoseSpot</em>.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Before you can prescribe controlled substances</h2>\n<p>PDMP access is separate from EPCS (Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances). To prescribe controlled substances, confirm your credentials are complete under <strong>Personal Settings &gt; Profile &gt; Healthcare Credentials</strong>: your NPI, your state license(s), and your DEA number in the standard format.
