How to Format Text in Chat and Other Fields
You can use formatting tools across chat, care plans, and other free text fields in SigmaMD to make your messages clearer and easier to read. This includes bold, italic, underline, lists, and clickable links.
Formatting Options
When you highlight text in a supported field, a floating formatting bar appears. You can use the following options:

- B – Bold
- I – Italic
- U – Underline
- • List – Bulleted list
- 1. List – Numbered list
- 🔗 – Link
Creating a Link
To insert a hyperlink:
- Select the text you want to turn into a link.
- Click the Link icon in the formatting bar.
- Paste the full URL (e.g.,
https://sigmamd.com
) and click Set Link. - Once linked, the text will appear with underline styling.
- Select the linked text again to:
- Visit the link
- Edit the link
- Remove the link

Good to Know
- Formatting is preserved when transferring text between fields (like from chat to a note).
- Formatting is only available in supported fields—if the bar doesn’t appear, formatting may not be available there.
- To improve readability, avoid excessive formatting in clinical documentation.
- Due to pharmacy system limitations, text formatting is not available for medication instructions.
