This guide empowers you to tailor medication prescriptions, allowing patients to choose their preferred pharmacies based on price and convenience. For clinicians who prefer a standard prescribing process without the patient needing to view cash prices, we also offer the traditional workflow. Let's delve into the seamless steps of prescribing medications and accommodating patient preferences:
1. Prescribing with Flexibility
The initial steps to launch the Dr. First modal and write the script remain the same as in the traditional workflow. To accommodate patient choice, ensure the Pharmacy field in the prescription creation screen does not have a Pharmacy set (displays 'Select a pharmacy'). Ignore any warnings regarding the pharmacy selection missing, as the patient will make their selection in the next steps via the SigmaMD patient mobile app.
2. Review and Save
Click "Review" to verify your prescription, addressing any other alerts presented by Dr. First. Remove any pharmacy already present in the review screen, if applicable. After reviewing the script, click "Save Pending Rx". To add more medications, select "Save and Add Rx".
3. Patient Pharmacy Selection
Close the Dr. First modal and return to the encounter screen. A new card in the Care Plan section will display the saved medication. The order can be modified by clicking the "pencil" icon to reopen the Dr. First modal.
4. Patient Choice Process
Click "Send to patient" in the Care Plan to allow patients to choose their preferred pharmacies via the SigmaMD patient mobile app. Medications can be modified before the patient makes their selection by clicking the "pencil" icon in the Care Plan card.
5. Sending to Chosen Pharmacies
Once the patient finalizes their pharmacy choices, both SMS and Push notifications will alert you that the orders are prepped and ready for transmission to the pharmacy. Concurrently, the Care Plan card will update to display this new status for easy reference.
Send the prescriptions to the chosen pharmacies by clicking "Send to pharmacy" to launch Dr. First. Select the prescriptions in the Prescription Management section of the main screen, enter your signature password, and choose from one of the following options:
- "Send" electronically dispatches the prescription to the pharmacy.
- "Send & Print" sends it electronically while also printing a non-legal, watermarked copy for your records.
- "Print don't Send" only prints the prescription without sending it, useful when the patient hasn't chosen a pharmacy.
- "Sign don't Send" adds the medication to the patient's active list without sending a prescription, typically used when providing a sample.
For prescriptions involving controlled substances, consult this guide for additional authorization steps.
By following these steps, you can provide a patient-centric prescription experience through SigmaMD. Patients will appreciate the choice and convenience, ensuring optimal care and cost savings.
