In this article, we will guide you through the steps of prescribing medications in SigmaMD Clinician. If you'd like to give your patients the flexibility to choose their pharmacy based on price and convenience in the SigmaMD patient mobile app, please refer to the steps in this guide.
Step 1: Launch the Prescription Modal
To begin prescribing, click on the Rx button below the chat in the encounter screen. This will open the Dr. First modal. Before prescribing medications for the current encounter, make sure to review the patient's health data. Please note that the Rx button is available only after completing the ID Proofing steps and enabling the Rx module. If you need assistance with enabling the Rx module, please reach out to our support team.
Step 2: Create the Prescription
To create a prescription, click on the "Create New Rx" button in Dr. First. Search for the medication you want to prescribe and select it from the results list. You'll then be taken to the prescription screen where you can fill in all the necessary information.
If the patient already has a preferred pharmacy, you can select it or search for their requested pharmacy in the Pharmacy field. However, please avoid setting a default pharmacy if the patient generally prefers to choose a pharmacy based on price and convenience (refer to this guide for details).
Step 3: Review and Save
Click on "Review" to go over your prescription. Take the time to address and acknowledge any alerts presented by Dr. First. After reviewing the script and pharmacy information, click on "Save Pending Rx". If you'd like to add more medications, click on "Save and Add Rx".
Step 4: Send the Prescription
On the DrFirst main interface, choose the prescriptions you wish to dispatch to the pharmacy. After selecting them, enter your signature password and choose from one of the following options:
- "Send" electronically dispatches the prescription to the pharmacy.
- "Send & Print" sends it electronically while also printing a non-legal, watermarked copy for your records.
- "Print don't Send" only prints the prescription without sending it, useful when the patient hasn't chosen a pharmacy.
- "Sign don't Send" adds the medication to the patient's active list without sending a prescription, typically used when providing a sample.
For prescriptions involving controlled substances, consult this guide for additional authorization steps.
Step 5: You're Done!
The prescription will be sent to the pharmacy, and the patient can view the details in the SigmaMD patient mobile app.
You can close the Dr. First modal at any time before sending the prescription to get back to the encounter. Just make sure to save your prescriptions before closing to avoid losing your progress. A card in the Care Plan section of the encounter screen will help you keep track of your work. When you're ready to send the prescriptions to the pharmacy, click on "Send to Pharmacy" or the Rx button below the chat to return to Dr. First.
By following these simple steps, you can easily prescribe medications to your patients in SigmaMD. If you have any questions or encounter any issues during the process, don't hesitate to contact our support team for assistance.
