If you are unable to deny an Rx refill request for a former pediatric patient due to a required height and weight entry, follow these steps to bypass the restriction and complete the denial:
Issue
When attempting to deny a refill request, the system prompts you to enter the patient's height and weight before proceeding to "More Details" of the Rx. However, if the patient is no longer under your care and you do not have this information, you are unable to move forward and complete the denial.
This commonly occurs when the pharmacy sends an automated refill request to your new practice, even though the original prescription was issued at a former practice using a different EMR.
Solution
- Enter an Invalid Placeholder Value
- Since the patient was auto-created within your practice in DoseSpot, your entry will not propagate elsewhere.
- Use an obviously invalid value (e.g., 99999) for height and weight.
- Proceed with the Denial
- After entering the placeholder values, click through to proceed with the Rx details.
- Select the appropriate denial reason.
- Submit the denial request.
Why This Works
- The system requires height and weight before allowing access to the Rx details.
- Using a placeholder value allows you to bypass this restriction without affecting other patient records.
- The entry remains local to SigmaMD and does not propagate to other systems.
