Creating a draft lab order allows you to prepare and review lab requests before finalizing them. Follow these steps to ensure all necessary details are included.
Step 1: Accessing the Patient Chart
Navigate to the patient chart and click the Order Labs button. Lab ordering is enabled when:
- A diagnostic provider is configured for the practice.
- At least one ordering clinician is registered.
- The patient has a registered address.
- If the patient is a care recipient, they must have a guarantor.
Step 2: Configuring the Lab Order
A new screen will appear where you can configure the lab order:
- Diagnostic Provider: Select from available laboratories.
- Ordering Provider: The provider ordering the tests (auto-filled if logged in as an ordering clinician).
- Billing Type: Choose the payment method.
Step 3: Creating the Draft Order
Once all fields are filled, click Next. The Draft Order screen will appear, and all changes are saved automatically.
Step 4: Finding and Managing Draft Orders
Draft orders can be accessed from the Draft Lab Orders section in the patient chart’s Overview tab or the Labs tab.
