Updating a Patient's Phone Number

You can update a patient's phone number directly from their chart in SigmaMD. Follow the steps below to make the change, or to swap numbers between two patients.

Updating a Phone Number

  • Navigate to the Patient Chart
    From the main menu, go to the Patients screen and select the desired patient to open their chart.
  • Access Patient Details
    Click on the View patient details icon at the top of the chart.
  • Edit Contact Details
    In the Contact tab, locate the Contact Details section and click the pencil icon to edit.
  • Enter New Number
    Replace the old number with the new SMS-capable phone number. Click Save.
  • Notification Sent
    Once saved, the patient will automatically receive a notification about the phone number update.

Swapping Phone Numbers Between Two Patients

If you need to swap phone numbers between two patient profiles, follow these steps carefully:

  1. Assign a Temporary Number
    Assign a third valid and SMS-capable number (eg. Google voice) to one of the patients to temporarily hold the spot.
  2. Reassign Phone Number
    Assign the old number of Patient 1 to Patient 2.
  3. Complete the Swap
    Finally, assign the old number of Patient 2 to Patient 1.

This ensures that each number is unique during the update process and avoids duplication or conflicts.
