This week’s update brings foundational improvements to charge item handling—particularly around medications—as well as enhancements to lab configuration, payments, and more.
Medication-Specific Charge Items
Charge items now distinguish between medications and general items, giving you more control over how you document and manage medications.
For medication charge items, new fields have been added:
- Lot number
- Expiration date
- Package NDC
- Source and more
This is the first step toward enabling inventory tracking in SigmaMD.
Lab and Imaging Configuration Improvements
Lab and Imaging orders now support patient billing. Select “Pay at PSC” during ordering to allow the patient to pay directly at the service center. Please note: pricing is determined by the lab, and in-office specimen collection is not available with this option.
In addition to the new billing option, you can now set default billing and draw types to streamline lab ordering—especially helpful if your practice works with multiple providers.
Configure these defaults in the Diagnostic Providers section under Practice Settings, and new lab orders will start with your preferred options already selected.
Payments & Billing Enhancements
Making changes to invoices is now easier and more accurate.
When you update an issued invoice, the corresponding payment record is automatically adjusted. This prevents duplicated payments and removes the need to manually cancel prior ones when issuing credits—streamlining workflows and reducing billing errors.
You’ll also notice clearer decline messages for failed payments, making it easier to understand and resolve payment issues.
