Missing CVV or ZIP for Saved Charge Cards
When importing payment data from Stripe into SigmaMD, you will notice that charge card records are missing some billing details. This article explains why this happens and what action to take.
Why CVV and ZIP Code May Be Missing
When SigmaMD imports saved credit card data from Stripe, the Card Verification Value (CVV) is not included due to security and compliance restrictions. In some cases, the billing ZIP code may also be unavailable.
As a result, payment methods imported from Stripe may appear incomplete in SigmaMD.
What You’ll See in the System
If a payment method is missing required fields, you’ll see the message:
Action required: CVV unavailable
This message appears next to the affected payment method in the patient’s chart.
Is This a Problem?
There is no impact to card processing—payments can still be processed even if the CVV or ZIP is missing.
However, it’s a good practice for the care team to contact the patient and collect the missing information to ensure the card data is complete and accurate.
How to Fix It
Contact the patient and request the missing fields. When editing the saved card, the following information should be completed:
- Cardholder name
- Billing ZIP
- Expiration date
- CVV
