Creating a Zero-Dollar Membership Plan and Attaching It to a Patient

In some cases, you may need to assign a patient to a membership without collecting payment — for example, when managing affiliate groups or sponsored patients. SigmaMD allows you to configure zero-dollar membership plans for these specific workflows.

Step 1: Create a Zero-Dollar Membership Plan

  • Go to Billing > Membership Plans.
  • Either create a new membership plan or edit an existing one.
  • Add one or more $0.00 seats to the plan.

Step 2: Attach the Membership to the Patient

  • Follow the steps in this article to manually attach a membership: How to Attach a Membership to a Patient
  • On the Enrollment Patient screen:
    • Select the membership with the Zero-dollar seat.
    • Place the desired patient in the Plan Seat.
    • Set the payment method to Cash.
    • Disable Enrollment Fee and Enrollment Notifications.

  • Click Save to update the membership for the selected patient.

This will allow the patient to appear as an active member in SigmaMD without triggering billing. The new membership will appear in the left-side column, and you can edit it at any time.


Managing Patients from Affiliates

Suppose you're managing affiliate groups that are part of networks such as Hint, Nextera, or PeakMed. In that case, you can use zero-dollar memberships to track and label these patients while maintaining accurate attribution. Consider naming your zero-dollar memberships according to the affiliate group (e.g., "Alpha Co / PeakMed Network") for easy reporting and filtering.
