Creating and Enrolling Patients in Zero-Dollar Memberships from Within SigmaMD

In some cases, you may need to assign patients to a membership without collecting payment—such as for friends and family, sponsored patients, or affiliate groups (e.g., Hint, Nextera, or PeakMed). SigmaMD supports zero-dollar membership plans for these workflows, allowing you to track, label, and report on these patients accurately. For clarity, consider naming zero-dollar memberships after the affiliate or group (for example, “Alpha Co / PeakMed Network”) to make filtering and attribution easier.

Step 1: Create a Zero-Dollar Membership Plan

  • Go to Billing > Membership Plans.
  • Either create a new membership plan or edit an existing one.
  • Create a monthly charging cycle and disable Auto-renew subscription

  • Add one or more $0.00 seats to the plan.

Step 2: Attach the Membership to the Patient

  • Follow the steps in this article to manually attach a membership: How to Attach a Membership to a Patient
  • On the Enrollment Patient screen:
    • Select the membership with the Zero-dollar seat.
    • Place the desired patient in the Plan Seat.
    • Set the payment method to Cash.
    • Disable Enrollment Fee and Enrollment Notifications.

  • Click Save to update the membership for the selected patient.

This will allow the patient to appear as an active member in SigmaMD without triggering billing. The new membership will appear in the left-side column, and you can edit it at any time.
