Missing CVV or ZIP for Saved Charge Cards

When importing payment data from Stripe into SigmaMD, you will notice that charge card records are missing some billing details. This article explains why this happens and what action to take.

Why CVV and ZIP Code May Be Missing

When SigmaMD imports saved credit card data from Stripe, the Card Verification Value (CVV) is not included due to security and compliance restrictions. In some cases, the billing ZIP code may also be unavailable.

As a result, payment methods imported from Stripe may appear incomplete in SigmaMD.

What You’ll See

There is no indicator on the payment method itself in the clinician app — the charge card list and the patient’s chart look the same whether or not a CVV is on file.

Instead, if an invoice is billed to a card that’s missing its CVV, SigmaMD adds a note to the patient-facing Invoice Issued notification letting the patient (or other payer) know a CVV is unavailable for that card. See Understanding Invoice Notifications for what that notification looks like.

Is This a Problem?

There is no impact to card processing—payments can still be processed even if the CVV or ZIP is missing. A CVV note on the Invoice Issued notification does not mean the payment failed, is pending, or needs to be reprocessed, including on invoices that have already been paid.
