Scanning a File into SigmaMD
It is possible now to Scan your files into SigmaMD by using a scanner. Below are the setup steps that must be taken so that the file can be scanned in practice's Inbox area.
Step 1: SigmaMD's Configurations
The standard configurations for every practice and location in SigmaMD will be done automatically by the system. You can check this by going to Practice Settings > Communication and locating the Scan Settings area.
In this area, you can see a few things:
- Each location of the practice is listed.
- Each location has an assigned email address to it, with a Copy button by the right of this email.
- Each location has a Regenerate button.

Regenerate Button
This option is for you to create a new email address for the location you selected. This option can only be used by Admins in the practice.
The Email Link
This is the Email Address that must be used by your scanner, so our system can read the scanned files.
Step 2: Scanning a File
First, your scanner must use the PDF format for all the files it scans. It currently is the primary format we are accepting for scanned files.
Once the file is scanned, the scanner or another tool must send it to the location's email that you got from the Scan Settings area.
Step 3: Seeing the File in SigmaMD
When the file is sent to the location's email, our system will process it. It may take a few minutes for this to happen.
Once this happens, the file will be shown in your Inbox area, under Inbox>Documents.
- The standard title used for the file in the Inbox is the one your scanner gave the file it scanned.
- The scanned file can be used like a fax, so it can:
- Be annotated and sent via Fax.
- Be made into a Lab or Imaging result.
- Be assigned to a patient and saved into their files.
