Overview: Inventory Management
SigmaMD’s charge items management system brings together everything your practice offers—medications, supplements, labs, imaging, procedures, and more—under one organized hub. Whether you’re dispensing medications, tracking batches, or managing diagnostic service pricing, the system helps you stay in control and compliant.
Inventory and Non-Inventory Items
You can create two types of charge items:
- Inventory items are physically stocked in your clinic, such as medications, supplements, and medical supplies. You can track their quantity, expiration dates, lot numbers, and restock thresholds.
- Non-inventory items are not tracked for stock levels. These include external services like lab tests, imaging, and procedures, as well as medications, supplements, or supplies that you dispense occasionally but don’t need to track. While you won’t be able to monitor quantities or restocking, you can still include these items in invoices and configure pricing, codes, and markup rules as needed.
Each item includes customizable fields like codes, tax profiles, markup rules, and base price.
Categories and Item Organization
Your practice can create custom categories to organize charge items. Each category can be configured with its own markup and tax rules, and can be set as trackable or non-trackable based on whether you need inventory controls.
Once tracking is enabled and items are added, the setting becomes locked and can’t be changed.
Diagnostic Services & Providers
You can connect external diagnostic service providers, such as Quest and LabCorp, for both labs and imaging. When you add a provider:
- SigmaMD auto-generates a corresponding category for pricing management.
- You can define markup and tax rules, then upload service pricing in bulk via CSV.
- Each provider is linked by interface type (Fax or Electronic), with connection statuses shown in the dashboard.
