How to Update a Patient’s Email and Phone for Caregiver Access

When a patient needs help managing their care, it’s common for a caregiver—often a family member—to step in and handle their account.

In case the patient was initially added to the system with their own contact information and later needs assistance from a caregiver, you can assign the caregiver’s contact info to the patient’s profile so the caregiver receives communications and can access the mobile app on the patient’s behalf.

There are two scenarios depending on whether the patient has already created a SigmaMD app account.

Scenario 1: Patient does not have an app account

If the patient hasn't used the SigmaMD app before, you can assign the caregiver's phone and email to their record and send a new invitation.

Steps:

  1. Go to the patient's chart.
  2. Update the Mobile Number and Email fields with the caregiver’s information.
  3. Send a new app invite code.

    Ask the caregiver to:

    • Install the SigmaMD app on their phone
    • Enter the verification code sent to them via SMS or email
    • Set up the app account on behalf of the patient

Scenario 2: Patient already has an app account

If the patient has previously set up their SigmaMD app account, updating their contact info will not reset their login, but the caregiver can still take over access.

Steps:

  1. Go to the patient’s profile and update the Mobile Number and Email with the caregiver’s information.

    Ask the caregiver to:

    • Install the SigmaMD app on their phone
    • Tap Forgot password on the login screen
    • Use the caregiver's email or phone (now saved on the patient’s profile) to reset the password and access the account

This ensures the caregiver can view appointments, messages, and health records as needed.
